Bot. t.3, p.645). Empr. au lat. sc. lycopodium 1671 (Bauhin, Pinax theatri botanici ds Roll. Flore t.11, p.83) lui-même formé des mots gr. λ υ ́ κ ο ς «loup» et π ο υ ́ ς, π ο ́ δ ο ́ ς, «pied» cette plante étant velue comme la patte d'un loup.
